In worship this past weekend we announced that Jenny McKenna is resigning from her position as the Director of Outreach at Lord of Life. Jenny’s last Sunday will be this week, March 22, and we will celebrate and pray for her in both services.

Jenny joined our staff in 2018, and it has been my great honor to work with her over these last 8 years. She has developed our Community Outreach and Global Missions ministries in ways that will leave a lasting impact on our congregation and the broader community. Many of you, I am sure, have come to recognize her big blue bin as it gets filled and then delivered with goodies throughout the year. Or perhaps you remember seeing her deliver her “big check” to ministry partners throughout the area! Groceries for families at Glen Loch, meals for Angel Reach, school supplies for Lutheran World Relief, and so much more have all flowed through Jenny’s office and out into the world on our behalf. I believe I speak for all of us when I say how truly grateful we are for her leadership in helping us all live into our core value to “Serve God’s World.”

I know many of you may have questions about what is to come for the Director of Outreach position. At this time, our personnel team will be assessing the role and determining how it fits within the larger framework of our staffing model. What I can assure you of is this: though the role may change, our commitment to our values will remain. The personnel team and I will be working diligently to put together a staffing solution that will continue to help these powerful ministries thrive. We will share as much information as we have as those plans come together. In the meantime, if you or someone you know has questions about this role or is interested in more information about the position please contact me directly.

Below, you will find a brief note from Jenny reflecting on her time at Lord of Life. I hope you will make a point to join us in worship as we celebrate Jenny’s service this weekend!

God loves each of you and I do too,

Pastor David

Letter from Jenny McKenna

Dear Lord of Life,

After eight years serving as Director of Outreach, I will be stepping away from this role as I begin a new season of full-time work. It has been one of the greatest privileges of my life to help coordinate the ways our congregation serves our neighbors and partners with organizations throughout our community.

Again and again, I have seen this church respond with generosity, compassion, and energy whenever a need arose. Together we have collected, built, packed, served, and given in ways that truly reflect our faith in action. As it says in  James 2:26, “Faith without works is dead.” You have shown, time and time again, that our faith here is very much alive.

Thank you for trusting me to help lead this work and for standing behind every project with such enthusiasm and care. While I am stepping away from this position, my family and I will remain active members of this church community, and I look forward to continuing to serve alongside you in new ways.

Serving God’s world with all of you has been a true blessing. Thank you.

With hope and gratitude,

Jenny McKenna
