Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.
— 1 Corinthians 12:12-14
Many Connections, One Family
At Lord of Life, a major way we live out our mission to connect, celebrate, and serve in God’s love is through our Connecting Ministries. Fostering connections among people in (and beyond) our church community lets us share our lives, experiences, and personal faith journeys with each other. By sharing our talents and gifts through small groups, fellowship, and volunteering, we deepen our relationships and create lively and strong connections among ourselves and with God.
Fellowship
There are always social and fellowship events coming up at Lord of Life and new ones being planned. Sometimes, these overlap with Outreach opportunities. Other times, they are just great opportunities to meet socially with people in the Lord of Life community. Check the list below and our event calendar to find out what’s going on!
Peggy Sloan is the Director of Connecting Ministries at Lord of Life. She coordinates all of Lord of Life’s volunteer and hospitality activities and organizes New Member Orientation and member welcoming activities. Learn more about Peggy.
Volunteering
Volunteers are the foundation of what we accomplish here at Lord of Life. Volunteers support Sunday morning Faith Formation and fellowship by serving as worship assistants, coffee makers, communion assistants, greeters, park & ride drivers, ushers, and Faith Formation teachers. On weekdays, volunteers keep our welcome desk staffed, make and serve Wednesday night dinner, help prepare the sanctuary for worship, and more. If you are looking for a place to plug in and share your time and talents, we have a spot for you!
Contact Peggy Sloan if you have any questions about volunteering.

Sewing Groups
Hug-A-Bears
This sewing group sews and stuffs soft bears to take to Memorial Hermann Hospital and Interfaith Community Clinic. Everyone is welcome! Basic sewing skills are helpful. Others can buy fabric and cut patterns. This group meets the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month at 9:30 a.m.
Ruth Ann’s Remnants
This group of quilters meets the 2nd and 3rd Thursdays of each month at 10:00 a.m. They make over 100 quilts per year, which are blessed and donated to the Lutheran World Relief program! No quilting experience is required. This is a great opportunity to learn from others.
Crafting, Stitching & Fellowshipping
Our Saturday stitchers’ club is expanding! Crafting, Stitching & Fellowshipping (formerly known as Stitch & Sew) invites makers of all ages to join us in the Lord of Life Library every Saturday at 9:30 a.m. You can bring your own project or help us support ministries like the Lutheran World Relief quilt ministry and Lord of Life Prayer Quilts.
Weekly and Monthly Fellowship Events
Wednesday Music, Meals, and More
What began as a way for families to enjoy a quick meal together before children’s music and choir practice blossomed into an offering of food and fellowship serving not only our congregation but also our community. Meals prepared on Wednesdays include extra portions that are distributed the next day to seniors in our congregation. Additional surplus meals are stored in our freezer to share with people facing food insecurity who reach out to Lord of Life for assistance. Come share a midweek meal with us!
The Common Table
This social ministry for adults age 55+ meets in conjunction with Trinity Episcopal down the street. The group gathers every 3rd Tuesday of the month at a nearby restaurant for a social gathering. Join the fun!
Bunco
This fun fellowship group meets every 4th Thursday at 7:00 p.m. (except Thanksgiving Day) in the Lord of Life Welcome Center to play Bunco. You do not need to know how to play—we will teach you! Bring $5 and a snack to share.
The Gathering Table
This social fellowship group meets the 2nd Thursday of the month at 10:30 a.m. at a local restaurant for brunch and a fun time of food and conversation. This group also supports food insecurity in our community by bringing grocery store gift cards to the gathering.
D.R.A.F.T. – Dads Refreshing and Fellowshipping Together
This casual group meets the 2nd Thursday of the month at 8:00 p.m. at Kirby Ice House in The Woodlands for conversation and fellowship.
A Men’s Group for Your Next Chapter
This is a group of men navigating the “third third” of life—when things get interesting! We’re talking about retirement, grandchildren, and all the curveballs life throws our way. Join them on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at Citizens Grill. Come out for some great conversation and a little encouragement!
LOLa’s Diner
“LOLa’s Diner” is made up of small dinner groups that meet monthly in members’ homes to share a meal. Every quarter, people are invited to sign up. Participants are arranged into groups—usually of three couples or households. Once a month, for the next three months, participants take turns hosting their group for a meal and fellowship. Singles are welcome—you can host on your own, invite a partner, or ask about partnering with another member. Hosts are also welcome to invite additional friends to join their gatherings. After three months, the groups break up and sign-up starts over. Look for quarterly sign-up announcements in the Fellowship Hall and on the event calendar.
Annual Events
Souper Bowl Day of Caring Indoor Tailgate
Our Souper Bowl Day of Caring Indoor Tailgate is associated with the annual national event where communities come together on Super Bowl Sunday to tackle hunger locally. At Lord of Life, you can participate by bringing food or just eating and voting! People who want to provide food can host a table, pick their favorite football team, and set out bite-sized tailgate food for everyone else. Attendees sample the food and buy tickets to vote for their favorites. All proceeds go to the Montgomery County Food Bank to support food insecure families in our local community. Watch the event calendar and the Lord of Life Happenings email for the next date and sign-up details.
Trivia Night
Lord of Life Trivia Night takes place every spring, benefitting the Senior High Mission Trip. This is a great evening of friendship-building, unpredictable fun, really arcane information, and trophies! Watch the event calendar and the Lord of Life Happenings email for the next date and sign-up details.
Pig Roast
Lord of Life’s annual Pig Roast neighborhood barbecue benefits the Pastor’s Discretionary Fund, which provides emergency financial assistance for our neighbors in The Woodlands, Montgomery County, and Greater Houston. This event usually takes place in May. Check the event calendar for the specific date and time of this fun church-wide get-together!
Trunk or Treat
Every year around Halloween, Lord of Life throws a Trunk or Treat party for kids from our neighborhood, Kids of the Kingdom, and Children’s Faith Formation. It’s a fun time of wild, creative displays and lots and lots of candy. You don’t want to miss it! Watch the event calendar and the Lord of Life Happenings email for the next date and sign-up details.
